This year the Christmas Novena starts today, Friday, 15 December, at 6.00pm with the theme Il-Presepju, sinjal tal-għaġeb.
The Christmas “novena” consists of nine consecutive days of prayer that focus the Christians’ attention intensely on the expectation of the birth of Christ and helps them to prepare themselves spiritually to receive him into their hearts. The Christmas novena traditionally targets primarily children and early adolescents. But it is also attended by adults, especially by the parents who accompany their children to the church.
The carol singing is adapted to the young congregation and it is accompanied by the children’s guitar group. Mass is followed by the singing of the Alma Redemptoris mater and sacramental benediction.
One way of experiencing this Advent is the Tree of Charity. This year we will support Arka Foundation, Oasi, Caritas in Gozo and St. Patrick’s and Soup Kitchen in Malta. Place your gifts under the tree.
This novena ends on Saturday, December 23.
