Liturgical Schedule
St George’s Basilica is the most liturgically active church in Gozo. People flock to the church every day throughout the day for Mass, Confession and other spiritual needs. On weekdays starting at 5.15am, on Sundays at 5.00am, Holy Mass is celebrated at frequent intervals throughout the morning and in the evening and people come from all over the island knowing that St George’s Basilica is always open to welcome them. This has been its tradition of service as everybody knows it. The liturgical services offered at St George’s are the following:
Holy Mass
Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation
Morning: 5.00, 6.00, 7.00, 8.00, 9.00 (High Conventual Mass with Gregorian Chant), 10.00 (Mass for Children and the Family), 11.00 (animated by the Basilica’s Choir), & 12.00.
Evening: 5.00, 6.00, & 7.00.
Mass on Weekdays
Morning: 5.15, 6.00, 7.00, 8.00, 9.00 (with homily), 10.00, & 11.00.
Evening: 4.00, 5.30 (with homily and Eucharistic adoration), & 7.00.
Confession
Confession is heard everyday throughout the day either in the basilica itself or in the sacristy where one can seek the service of the parochial vicars or the priest celebrating Mass.
Counselling
Same as Confession but it would be much better if one makes an appointment with his chosen priest beforehand.
Baptism and Weddings
By prior appointment. The administration of these sacraments requires pastoral and catechetical preparation so it is important to seek assistance from the Parish Office as early as possible.
Confirmation and First Communion
These two sacraments are generally administered during the Easter season but provision is made for children of returning migrant families so that these could receive these sacraments at other times of the year, especially during Festa time. The administration of these sacraments requires catechetical preparation and for this reason the registration of candidates takes place early in the pastoral year (generally in September and October), followed by weekly catechetical meetings at the Parish Centre.
