Lent is a special time for the preaching of the Word and the St George’s Parish has laid out a programme of ministry that runs through the current liturgical season.  Priests from Gozo as well as from the archdiocese of Malta will be preaching to special social categories.

Friar Martin Cilia MSSP gives the Lenten talks to parents and families.  These start on Monday, February 27, at 7.30pm, and continue until Friday.  These will be held at St George’s Basilica.

Catechists Noel Formosa and Charlene Zammit are going to give five Lenten talks to the children of the parish and these will take place also from Monday, February 27, at 7.30pm, and till Friday 3 March.  These talks will be held in the Parish Hall.

Rev. Samuel Grech gives the general Lenten sermons to all, from Monday, March 6, at 4.30pm, onwards.

Apart from this preaching of the Word that takes place in the basilica, other meetings and retreats are being offered both on the premises of the St George’s Parish Centre as well as in places around Gozo.  The earliest one is a held three-day retreat that is being organised for the 23Four Group adolescents from Friday 3rd till Sunday 5th March.  One for married couples will be held between the 10th March and the 12th March, and another live-in will be held for the adolescents’ groups between Friday 17th and Sunday 19th March.  A meeting of prayers and healing led by Rev. Marcello Ghirlando OFM for the parish community, especially those who will take part in the Holy Week Procession and in the Holy Week activities will take place on Saturday 1 April at 8.00pm.

During the Lent the community is also invited to live actively the following moments of Liturgy and Catechesis:
