Another edition of the parish magazine is now out. It features predominantly the special July celebrations that we all have experienced together. They were special and unique. Not that everyone was hoping to celebrate restricted and contained liturgical celebrations, but given the situation, we had to adapt to the circumstances.
The front page of the magazine, as it is now for a number of editions, features a full-page photo. It shows St George’s statue being lifted up in the middle of the presbytery, a reminiscent scene of similar celebrations held in the late 60s. The middle and back pages of the publication also portray various moments during this year’s Festa. Transcripts of the three short reflections delivered during Sunday’s evening celebration also feature.
A detailed summary of the four paintings featuring the new works of art related to the first four works of mercy is provided. It explains in particular the symbolism in each of the four paintings. These were shown for the first time during the Novena and later attached to the pendentives of the cupolas in both aisles of our church.
Following the review of Mgr Joseph Farrugia’s pastoral work in France, Fr Tonio Galea was the second priest who writes about his experience away from our shores. Coincidentally, the article was written in the same period when Fr Tonio was nominated as a Parish Priest in Rome.
The second part of Mgr Joseph Gauci’s translation of a sermon on St George by St Andrew of Crete features. The near completion of restoration works of our façade and on the newly installed clocks is also tackled in this edition. Mario Casha writes an article about the 60-year priestly ministry of Mgr Emmanuel Curmi, a much loved and respected priest. This edition also salutes the memory of Michael Cassar, a former editor of this publication who passed away in August. For sure, we are all grateful for his contribution and dedication towards this publication.
Other series continuing from previous issues also feature. These include the pastoral album, an article from our parish archives, the parish diary, parish news, the editorial and the Archpriest’s message.
