We are now in the Festive Solemnity of St George. So… a Happy Feast to all!

Though many in Gozo today wouldn’t even know that it is their island’s Heavenly Protector who is being celebrated in Victoria, if they had to ask their forefathers, they would proudly tell them that a visit to St George’s Parish Church on the third Sunday of July was a must for every Gozitan family.

This evening at 6.30pm, Bishop Mario Grech, Dean of the Collegiate Chapter, presided the Solemn Translation with the Relic of St George and the First Pontifical Vespers, followed by Eucharistic Benediction. A late evening mass for those who can’t make it tomorrow will be celebrated inside the Basilica at 10.00pm.

The Bishop will again preside tomorrow morning’s Pontifical High Mass at 8.30am, where Fr Jonathan Farrugia will deliver a homily about the saint. Prof. Joseph Vella’s Mass in D Major “Princeps Martyrum” will be sung by the Laudate Pueri Choir.

The Procession with the Titular Statue of St George around the main streets of Victoria will start at 7.30pm, with the participation of the La Stella Band, among others.

All main liturgies inside the Basilica are live streamed on our Facebook Page and Youtube Channel.
