Hæc dies quam fecit Dominus! This is the day the Lord has made!”. We are still rejoicing with the light of Easter Sunday, the feast of feasts, the day of unequalled joy, the day on which Christ is risen.

Last Saturday, the large congregation at St George’s Basilica joined the churches around the world in the celebration of the triumph of Christ over death. On Sunday, it continued with the celebration: at 8.45 the La Stella Band of Victoria played festive marches to welcome the appearance of the now restored statue of the Risen Lord out of the Basilica and then accompanied it along the main streets of Victoria; at 11.00am, Archpriest Mgr Joseph Curmi presided on a High Mass.

BLESSING OF FAMILIES

It is a long-standing tradition that the Archpriest of St George’s Parish visits the households of his parishioners to bless their homes and exchange Christian greetings with them. Moreover, it is an opportunity for the parishioners to voice their concerns and appreciation regard the parish. This year the blessings commenced on Monday 17 April, till 27 May 2017. This is the first opportunity for Archpriest Curmi to get to know his parishioners better by visiting their homes. Furthermore, on Tuesdays he will be also visiting parish youths studying in Malta at their flats.

Liturgical Feast of St George, Patron of Gozo

Now we look forward to celebrate the liturgical feast of St George, which due to its occurrence next Sunday, has been transferred to the day after, 24 April. One of the focal points of the celebration will be the Solmen Vigil on Sunday 23, at St George’s Square, which starts at 7.30pm, and for which the titular statue of St George will be brought out in the main portals of the Basilica.

Archpriest Mgr Joseph Curmi, the Collegiate Chapter, Clergy and Parish Pastoral Council wish a Happy Easter to all our visitors on this website. May the Joy of the Risen Lord be in you, fill your homes and accompany you always and everywhere.
