New look for website's bulletin archive

In the last few weeks, thanks to the help of our designers at Osprey Services, the bulletin archive section on this website has been added with new features and rendered more accessible in style and easier to handle. A regular service offered by St George’s official website is that of uploading on a weekly basis the parish bulletin in PDF format. And it is there on time, usually before the “hard copies” are printed at the parish office and distributed to the households!

Lent is such a special time of the year! On a span of forty days, the Church prepares her children spiritually for her “feast of feasts”, celebrated on that greatest night of all: the Easter Vigil. Meanwhile, waiting for the Lord’s deliverance, Holy Mother Church invites us to “keep watch” in prayer, fasting and charity.

Can. John Scicluna’s gifted talent as an educator of souls and zealous confessor was the highlight of Mgr Mario Grech’s homily at the 78-year old priest’s Solemn Funeral Mass, last Saturday, February 13, 2010, at St George’s basilica. Although it was Carnival weekend, and on the same day the parish was celebrating the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, the deceased canon’s close relatives expressed their wish to proceed with the funeral rites the day after his demise.

Farewell to the priest with a humble smile

Yesterday morning this website announced to its readers the demise of Can. John Scicluna, a 78-year old priest from our parish and canon of our collegiate chapter. St George’s presbyterium has lost many of its clergy in the last few years, of course due to old age and illnesses. Can. Scicluna passed away at the Gozo General Hospital, where he was taken for intensive care a fortnight ago.

Can. John Scicluna, one of the priests and canons of St George’s, has just passed away, at the Gozo General Hospital. Ordained on April 15, 1956, Can. Scicluna has carried out his ministry as teacher of Religion to thousands of secondary school students, as chaplain to the Sisters of Charity in Victoria and, above all, as confessor and spiritual director in St George’s parish and in other parishes of Gozo.
